Mint in box-complete, perhaps some age wear, but unplayed with, $175 to $300. Mint-excellent condition non boxed in all original clothes $60 to $150. Played with, very good condition in partial original clothes $25 to $75. Played with, well loved, no original clothes $10 to $40.

In hindsight, Chatty Cathy might have been a bit creepy. A "Twilight Zone" episode called "Living Doll," was essentially based on Cathy, except that this doll was named Talky Tina — and Tina was even voiced by the original Chatty Cathy, June Foray. Perhaps this creepiness led to Cathy's discontinuation in 1966.

When it arrived on the market in 1960, the doll played eleven phrases, including "I love you", "I hurt myself!" and "Please take me with you". In 1963, seven more were added to the doll's repertoire, including "Let's play school" and "May I have a cookie?", for a total of 18 phrases.

Chatty Cathy, with its pull string mechanism connected to a simple photograph record inside the doll, was the first successful talking doll. Introduced in 1960, the doll "spoke" eleven phrases. By 1963, eighteen phrases.
